Still Ill

11th Sept:

I still feel so ill and now I have a fever. I have zero energy, I keep getting horrible sweats and I can't cool down. The electricity keeps cutting out so I can't even cool down under the fan all the time.

It rained really heavily for quite a while in the evening and there was plenty of lightening. I have only been getting up for meals because I feel so crap, but when I tried to go to bed early the rain had been so heavy that the roof of our building had leaked. I spent some time trying to mop up the water before I felt too crap to carry on and finally went to bed.

12th Sept:

Still ill with a fever. I had to spend the day in bed again, except for meals. I was feeling very sorry for myself so I took Scooby the little pug to my room with me. He sleeps all the time anyway but it still felt like company to have him snoozing under my bed.

Scooby's standard pose. He's a weird little dog...

It turns out that heavy rain has prompted a plague of flying ants. I tried going back to bed early again, but where the veranda light was on it has clearly attracted the ants and there. are. millions. of. them. I was exhausted again, but I had to spend a good chunk of time sweeping out the corridor before going to clean my teeth and get ready for bed. The bajillion bugs on the veranda can wait. I'm too ill to deal with them.

So. Many. Bugs.

13th Sept:

I got up for breakfast and the corridor has a lot more ants again. Alex has already gone to breakfast so I had to sweep up the bugs again before getting washed and going for breakfast. I started to sweep up the bugs on the veranda, but while my fever had settled a bit but I felt terrible again doing some work so I gave up.

Alex went back to the field again for the first time since Bangalore, and I tried to stay up for a while as we had visitors. The visitors included a very precocious 3 year old who thought I was a boy because of my hair cut. She was incredible, the most verbally advanced 3 year old I have ever come across - and kind of hilarious with it!

After they left I had to go back to bed again. Stupid fever.

14th Sept:

Still not feeling great, but my fever is a lot better now. At one point today there was a bit of a breeze, and I stopped feeling like I was melting for the first time all week. I finished sweeping the bugs into a pile, but then I felt pretty annoyed that I've been so sick but done so much work so I stopped for a bit.

Pile o' bugs

I did some work in the office in the afternoon, I still couldn't concentrate much but I did manage to catch up on my emails and a bit of reading, and I arranged with Manil to send my program proposal to PIA to see if they are willing to partner with it. Manil felt ill then and needed an emergency lie down, and I was worried that I might have passed on my germs...

I also asked Alex to find out the best way to dispose of the bugs, and then to do it himself. Alex was doing his own stuff a for bit, so when the bugs were still there late in the evening I asked him to make sure he dealt with it in the morning as it too late now. He tried to argue with me that he hadn't been able to find the bugs, and I ran out of patience, told him I didn't want a debate or excuses, just an agreement that he would sort it. I tried to explain that I was sick of being the only one, and that I shouldn't have to explain that he needs to do things that are obvious - he should take some responsibility himself. I felt too sick, tired, and pissed off, to try and be nice about it, and I didn't feel as though it was a topic that warranted a long discussion.

I had another early night as Manil has asked me to help out in the kitchen tomorrow morning because everyone is sick, so I will have to get up early.
