Saturday
Well Saturday came around again quickly! Today is the science exam at school, but I decided to go to the exam today as I feel like I haven't spent enough time at the school recently. I stayed until school finished at midday, doing whatever I could to be useful and supervising the children.
There was a gap between the children finishing school and our lunch being ready, so I went to my room to read a little. When I came out to go up and do some work at the house, I saw the hostel boys downstairs wrestling with a snake! I quickly went back for my camera.
The snake was a Russell's viper, a very dangerous Indian snake, and this one was a relatively small example. Manil had been walking along and had almost stepped on it, but luckily the boys had a holiday from college and so had been called to deal with it.
Using a special implement to secure the snake's head, they carefully picked it up and put it into a rice sack so that they could take it out to the uninhabited Sannipalli hills to release it safely.
After lunch was some quiet time until the staff meeting, where I received back some more completed biogas surveys and Alex announced that he will be leaving SEDS next Saturday as he has booked a holiday to Rajasthan.
Arriving back to the house after the meeting broke up, I saw that Rashna and her Alex were back. They also had Alex's brother Ashwin with them. He was very friendly too, and we listened to some music by his band, Inthenow, as we sat at the table (Ashwin is the drummer).
Suddenly, Balaji and one of his friends who I met last Saturday arrived, and invited student Alex and me to a family event. They weren't able to describe it in English, but it turned out to be an equivalent of a baby shower. I quickly got changed and we went to Balaji's friend's house again - the house nearest to the SEDS farm. This was such a special event that I will describe it in a separate post.
