On the Road to Penukonda

Thursday marks the day when we leave Bangalore and head out to our host NGOs.

Bye bye bed!

We pack up all of our stuff, and either things behind at the guesthouse or take them with us. Then we pile into Augustine's Toyota SUV for the few hours to Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh, and the SEDS NGO. (SEDS is actually outside of the town of Penukonda, by a village called Maklapalli/Anapudar).

In the car

We are greeted by one of the founders, Manil, and her husband Rajan. Rajan is less active in things these days after a motorbike accident caused a traumatic brain injury, but he is still a very important figurehead in the organisation. There was also Ronny, a long-time volunteer from Belgium who comes out every year and has done a lot of work with SEDS, especially with the school. Last but not least, there was a pack of 8 rescue dogs ranging from a little fat pug up to a giant great dane!

Sherrie will be moving on to a different NGO, Timbaktu, tomorrow, but she is staying with us at SEDS tonight. We all put our stuff in the room, had a bit of a tour of things, ate, talked, and looked forward to seeing what this next stage of placement will hold for us...
