Day 2 in Bangalore
My second day in the city began gently. I made French toast
topped with ripe and juicy tropical fruits, drank tea, and waited for Augustine
to arrive.
Augustine and I talked more about ourselves, our cultures,
and Indian society. We made arrangements for when the other students, Sherrie
and Alex, would arrive the following day – ensuring that the beds were made up
and that things were tidy for them.
After Augustine left I went for a walk in the local
neighbourhood to find the nearby shops and facilities. As I was walking some of
the monsoon rain started and I was invited to take shelter under someone’s
awning until the rain subsided. I continued walking, the quiet streets gradually
getting busier and busier as I got nearer to the shops. I picked up some
supplies, including a string and some pegs as it was impossible to dry any
washing on the line outside due to the unpredictable rain, then walked back. The
rain started again and became pretty torrential, flooding the streets and
soaking me through to the skin (hence I have no photos as my camera is not
waterproof!) Luckily a tuk tuk driver drove past on his way from collecting his
daughter from school, and he kindly stopped for me a drove me back home. The
rain continued and the bottom of our road flooded, so I decided to stay in for
the rest of the evening and get an early night, in preparation for my middle-of-the-night
duties of greeting the next student to arrive, Alex.
