Attending to the loom

All of the saris on the looms are visible only on the wrong side. Imagine how beautiful the right side must look!







The full height of the power loom. The golden-yellow coloured threads running up to the top of the machine are wires which are used to raise and lower individual warp threads, so that when the weft threads are woven through they create the beautiful patterns and images in the saris. These movements are controlled by computer, either modern ones or those using punch cards.

After removal from the looms, the saris are polished with a water gum spray, and then tightly wound around these wooden spindles
